Libraries, like any other institution, requires educated people to look after it. For the record, library personnel with a Diploma or above qualification in Library and Information Studies discipline in the Maldives is less than 10. There are only three people with a University Degree. This Association, in partnership with the National Library of Maldives and the Maldives National University Library, is trying to educate library professionals, thereby educating the user community to cherish the libraries, to cherish knowledge & information. The country’s development is reliant on the information sector.
We need the users of the libraries to be mature enough to understand that the libraries in the Maldives operate on a very limited budget. We rely on the goodwill of the people and our users to keep the books in shape.
